Week 4: Lent

1–2 minutes

Lent is upon us—a season marked by reflection, sacrifice, and an annual journey of voluntary suffering. Ash Wednesday signals the start of this solemn time, as Christians prepare their hearts and minds for Easter. When Easter dawns, we are met not with grief but with boundless joy. It is the season of resurrection, of renewal, of hallelujahs proclaimed once more. We are, after all, an Easter people brought to life again through hope and grace.

Week 4 Update

And just as Lent transitions into Easter, so too must this chapter in my journey transform into one of rebirth and determination. The trials of February have only made me stronger. The “no’s” I’ve faced and the political storms we all endure have not extinguished my spirit—they’ve fueled it. My project, *Labor Pains*, remains profoundly relevant in these times of turmoil. Its significance is precisely why it faces suppression. But I will not be silenced. I will not back down. Because where there is struggle, there is also hope. Where there is resistance, there is strength.

This is the battle of our age. And we are not fighting it alone.

Artists, organizations, and educational institutions everywhere are doubling down on their commitment to truth, justice, and equity. Together, we are pushing forward, refusing to succumb to the narrative of despair being thrust upon us. The flames of hope burn brightly, and I invite you to join me in stoking them. Support my journey by donating to my GoFundMe campaign, following my project on social media, and, most importantly, by participating.

Come to community events. Don’t just sit quietly in meetings—speak up, bring your children, and claim your voice. In the face of attempts to break our collective spirit, we must remain steadfast. We must resist the pull of hopelessness.

Do not despair.

Fight.
